Has something shaken your relationship to its core?
When trauma, grief, betrayal or a major life change has shaken your relationship, you don't have to find your way back alone.
Couples counselling at The Still Space is for partners going through some of the hardest things a relationship can face. Sessions are with Sammy Wynn, whose specialised background in trauma and grief means she understands what you're carrying, both as individuals and together. In person at our Engadine practice.
Feeling like you're facing this together, yet somehow alone?
We support couples who are navigating:
Trauma: when one or both of you carry trauma, from the past or from something you've been through together, and it's showing up in your relationship
Grief and loss: the death of a child, parent or loved one, pregnancy loss, or a diagnosis that has changed everything
Infidelity: when trust has been broken and you're unsure whether, or how, to rebuild it
Significant life changes: a new baby, illness, a move, redundancy, children leaving home, or any change that has left you feeling like strangers
Big moments like these can pull even the closest couples apart. Grieving differently, reacting differently, or not knowing how to reach each other is not a sign that your relationship has failed. It's a sign of how much you're both carrying.
Worried counselling will mean blame or taking sides?
Sammy doesn't take sides. You'll both be heard, and you'll both be supported.
Together, you'll make sense of how what you've been through is affecting each of you and the space between you. You'll find gentler ways to talk about the things that feel too painful to raise at home, and slowly rebuild safety, understanding and trust. Whether you choose to move forward together or apart, you'll be supported to do it with care.
Afraid of having to relive it all? You won't.
Healing from trauma begins with feeling safe. So we start there, helping you feel steadier in the here and now. Then, gently and only when you're ready, we make sense of what's underneath.
Our trauma work is grounded in a deep understanding of how trauma shapes the brain, body and nervous system. Our Practice Principal, Sammy, trained directly with Dr Bessel van der Kolk, author of The Body Keeps the Score, and continues to study the latest research in trauma recovery.
Over time, many people find they react less, rest more, trust themselves again, and feel more connected to the people and life around them.

Nervous about the first session together?
Your first session is a chance for Sammy to hear from you both. Sessions are 75 minutes and in person, because being in the room together makes a real difference.
Like all our practitioners, Sammy works with couples for a minimum of six sessions, because we believe change happens over time, in spaces that feel predictable and consistent.
If there is violence or fear in your relationship, couples counselling isn't the safest first step. Please reach out to us for individual support, or call 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732.
